I hope you enjoy the information posted here. It is easy to become very interested in the rich and colorful history of Port Townsend. I wish to acknowledge the rich resources found at the Jefferson County Historical Society Museum.
Clark Aldrich ~ came to Port Townsend in 1882 and within a few years opened a variety store on Tyler Street. Following a fire in 1904 he moved the store to it's present location at the corner of Tyler and Lawrence Street. Ironically the store burned again in 2003 and a modern replacement with same name opened in 2005. Clark Aldrich lived until 1954 and was involved in many local businesses including a furniture store, a mortuary and the Merchants Bank.

Capain Thomas Grant 1851 - 1922
Born in Pugwash, Nova Scotia of Scottish parents. Came to Pugent Sound in 1874 and a deckhand on the North Pacific until 1877. He served on many famous vessels including Idaho, Eliza Anderson and the ill-fated Discovery. In 1879 Grant was made captain of the steamer Alida. Grant married Lizzie Pritchard in 1886 in Seattle.
